The UK government started the Free Boiler Grant as part of its efforts to promote energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. By providing financial assistance to homeowners to upgrade to more energy – efficient heating systems, the government aims to help reduce the amount of energy needed to heat homes, which can lower energy bills and reduce the country’s overall carbon footprint. You can also easily contribute to the Government’s drive by heating your home, reducing home heat loss, generating renewable energy and buying energy efficient products. A few ways through which you can ensure effectively staying warm are –

  • Draught Proofing – Trapping warm air in the house means you will ultimately save on your energy bills while staying comfortable.
  • Roof and Loft Insulation – An uninsulated home loses a quarter of its heat through the roof. Thus it reasonably follows that proper insulation will result in reduced heat loss and bills.
  • Installing Smart Meters – Smart Meters not only keep you informed about the amount of gas and electricity being used by you, they also help your energy supplier balance the grid.
  • Solar Panels – Solar electricity panels, also known as photovoltaics ( PV ) aid in generating renewable energy and are beneficial for everyone.
  • Heat Pumps – Depending on the type of system being replaced Heat Pumps, that move the heat captured from outside into your homes, can also help in reduction of electricity bills.

To encourage increased usage of Heat Pumps, grants have been made available for those who wish to move towards energy efficiency. There are several different types of heating grants available in the UK, including the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme, which provides funding to help low – income households improve the energy efficiency of their homes, and the Warm Home Discount Scheme, which provides a one – off discount on electricity bills for eligible households.

Some of the benefits of the Government Free Boiler Scheme include:

  • Reduced energy bills : A new, energy – efficient boiler can save you money on your energy bills by using less energy to heat your home.
  • Improved home comfort : A new boiler can provide more consistent and reliable heat, making your home more comfortable.
  • Enhanced home value : Upgrading to a new, energy – efficient boiler can increase the value of your home.
  • Ease and Comfort of Usage : The latest smart technology in the new Storage Heaters means that they can be controlled remotely, making your life toasty and comfortable.

Over 1.5 million heat pumps were installed all across Europe in 2020 itself while millions more will need to be installed over the next 10 – 15 years if the UK Government wants to achieve its Net Zero target by 2050. Get your home upgraded now, before the funding runs out!
